Yellow lightsaber blades were fairly uncommon for Jedi to wield. Jedi Temple Guards were among the few groups to carry yellow-bladed lightsabers.
Yellow kyber crystals were extremely rare, but associated with Jedi Sentinels. These Jedi honed their skills across various disciplines to adapt as needed.
The advantages of yellow lightsaber blades were not made clear. They seemed to be powered by Jedi Sentinels’ diverse skills and knowledge rather than any offensive or defensive edge.
Red
Red lightsaber blades are synonymous with Sith and others who embrace the dark side of the Force. Famous red lightsaber wielders include Darth Vader, Darth Sidious, Darth Maul, and Kylo Ren.
Red kyber crystals were made by Sith corrupting standard blue and green kyber crystals, causing them to “bleed” red. This process turned them into powerful focusing tools for dark side energy.
Red lightsaber blades do not necessarily have greater cutting power or durability. But they do channel their wielders’ anger, hatred, and power in the dark side. This makes red blades potentially more dangerous, but dependent on the Sith’s own strength and skills.
White
White lightsaber blades are unique and only appeared in the hands of certain Jedi. The only two known white lightsabers were wielded at times by Ahsoka Tano and Asajj Ventress.
Ahsoka’s white blades came from purifying two red kyber crystals that had been “bled” by a Sith. Asajj’s white blades also likely came from purified red crystals.

Black
Black lightsaber blades are extremely rare but are associated with Sith seeking to build superweapons. The only known black-bladed lightsaber was constructed by the Sith Lord Exar Kun.
Exar Kun’s black blade was powered by numerous corrupted kyber crystals fused together. It essentially contained the combined power and darkness of many red Sith lightsabers.
The black blade was said to be more destructive and contain more dark side energy than normal lightsabers. But it came at a cost of being highly unstable, limiting its effectiveness in combat despite its destructive potential.
Double-Bladed Lightsabers
Some Force users like Darth Maul utilized double-bladed lightsabers, which contain two plasma blades extended from one hilt. The blades are connected at the hilt and can act as a single double-sided blade.
These lightsabers were able to deliver more rapid, unpredictable strikes from using two blades. But they required more skill and agility to wield effectively compared to a single blade.
Any color of kyber crystal could power a double-bladed lightsaber. So the color did not impact its performance, only the skill of who wielded it.
Dual Lightsabers
Wielding two separate single-bladed lightsabers simultaneously also granted an advantage in lightsaber combat. Famous examples include Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader and Asajj Ventress.
