Which iPhone comes in white?

Apple’s iPhone line has included white color options since the original iPhone launched in 2007. Over the years, Apple has released various white iPhone models, though not every generation has had a white version. Let’s take a look at which iPhone models have come in white.

Original iPhone (2007)

The very first iPhone, retroactively called the iPhone 2G after newer models launched, was available in two color options: aluminum and black as well as white and silver. The white iPhone had a white plastic back and silver metal band around the edges.

iPhone 3G (2008)

The iPhone 3G, Apple’s second-generation iPhone, was also released in black/aluminum and white/silver color options. The white iPhone 3G had the same design as the original, with a white plastic back and silver metal edges.

iPhone 3GS (2009)

Apple retained the same black and white color options for the iPhone 3GS in 2009. Visually, the white iPhone 3GS looked identical to the previous two generations, with a white plastic rear casing and silver edges.

iPhone 4 (2010)

The iPhone 4 represented a major design overhaul for Apple, with a glass front and back and a metal band around the perimeter. It came in black and white, both with silver metal edges. The white iPhone 4 had white glass panels on the front and back.

iPhone 4S (2011)

The iPhone 4S, an incremental update to the iPhone 4, continued the tradition of offering both black and white models. As with the iPhone 4, the white iPhone 4S had a white glass front and back with silver edges.

iPhone 5 (2012)

Apple’s iPhone 5 received another redesign, with an aluminum unibody frame. It was released in black & slate as well as white & silver. The white iPhone 5 had white glass panels on the front and back and a white aluminum frame.

iPhone 5S (2013)

The iPhone 5S, retaining the iPhone 5 design, was available in three colors: space gray, gold, and silver. The silver iPhone 5S had a white glass front and back with a silver aluminum frame, similar to previous white iPhones.

iPhone 5C (2013)

For the lower-cost plastic-bodied iPhone 5C, Apple offered several bright color options, including white. The white iPhone 5C had a solid white polycarbonate shell on the back.

iPhone 6/6 Plus (2014)

The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus were released in three polished aluminum finishes: space gray, silver, and gold. The silver color option had a white glass front and back, resembling previous white iPhones.

iPhone 6S/6S Plus (2015)

The iPhone 6S series came in four color options: silver, gold, space gray, and rose gold. The silver 6S and 6S Plus models had white glass panels and a silver aluminum frame, like earlier white iPhones.

iPhone SE (2016)

Apple’s smaller 4-inch iPhone SE was offered in four colors: silver, gold, space gray, and rose gold. The silver model paired white glass with a silver aluminum body.

iPhone 7/7 Plus (2016)

The iPhone 7 series came in two basic colors: black and jet black. For the first time since the iPhone 3G, Apple did not offer a traditional white color option for its base iPhone model.

iPhone 8/8 Plus (2017)

With the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, Apple brought back a white color option, offered alongside silver and space gray aluminum casings. The white iPhone 8 had white glass with a silver aluminum frame.

iPhone X (2017)

The special 10th anniversary iPhone X was released in just two colors: space gray and silver. The silver iPhone X paired white glass with a shiny stainless steel frame.

iPhone XS/XS Max (2018)

The iPhone XS and XS Max came in three finishes: space gray, silver, and gold. As with earlier generations, the silver model combined white glass with a silver stainless steel frame.

iPhone XR (2018)

The lower-cost iPhone XR was offered in six colors, including white. The white iPhone XR had an all-white glass and aluminum design.

iPhone 11/11 Pro (2019)

The iPhone 11 flagship phones came in a variety of colors, including white. The lower-cost iPhone 11 had a solid white glass and aluminum rear casing. The higher-end iPhone 11 Pro had a white glass back with silver stainless steel edges.

iPhone SE (2020)

The second-generation iPhone SE came in black, white, and Product(RED). The white version had an all-white glass and aluminum design.
